Making the Most Out of Nothing – Fujifilm X100s Speedlite shooting

Thank you to my good friend, Jordan, for letting me use him as my model/guinea pig. We had some good laughs on this one! This wasn’t the best location but it was a last minute thing and we needed that sunset. This was a great learning experience for me as a photographer especially since I’m new to using speedlites. All I can say is, I love it!

I used Flashwave iii radio triggers with my Nikon SB-700 speedlite through an umbrella for all these shots.

So here’s what we came up with.

The only place for focus the camera could really see was the edge of his shoulders. I should have used manual focus because I missed focus quite a few times but like I said, this was a learning experience and just for fun!

He’ll never admit just how much he enjoys this!

Jordan needed some time getting used to being in front of the camera. I think he did a great job! Thank you JORDAN!

This photo really shows the unbalance in the natural light and the speedlite. I tried using gels on my flash but it took over the white balance. I didn’t have time to fumble around with it because I was loosing the sun. Notice how tack sharp his eye is.

And to wrap it up, here’s a photo of me! you can clearly see the umbrellas in my shades.

Overall, I’m more than pleased with the results. What do you guys think of my first speedlite shooting experience?

Awesome photos. Really thinking about the Fuji x100s. Good thing I can’t find any in stock or id probably have one. Hard to give up my d7000. Can’t afford both. Again great job.

Great job! I’ve just bought the xpro1 and I’m thinking of using it with radio trigers and some old vivitar :) I wonder how that will come up :)
